About the Author
Ashish Tewari is a Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the IIT-Kanpur. He specializes in flight mechanics and control, and his research areas include attitude dynamics and control, re-entry flight dynamics and control, non-linear optimal control and active control of flexible flight and structures. He has authored 2 books Atmospheric and Space Flight Dynamics and Modern Control Design with MATLAB and SIMULINK, and over 40 refereed journal and conference papers.

The book describes the topics on introductory material on controls, Flight Dynamic Models, Control Design Techniques, Automatic Control of Aircraft, Rockets, and Spacecraft.
Some of the interesting and useful features of this book are that it treats both atmospheric and space flight vehicles and the treatment of technical content with full integration of industry and academia standard software such as MATLAB®/Simulink® with a practical touch in various problems. Although no definite pre-requisite is required beyond dynamics, those with the necessary background in dynamics and controls will enjoy reading the book. However, the author did a great job in covering the necessary introductory material before introducing the advanced topics such as optimal control and two-point boundary value problems etc. The book, with good collection of exercises with answers, makes it an excellent choice for using it to teach relevant courses for undergraduate senior or graduate junior year students in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering. Others working in aerospace-related industry, federal labs will find it useful for self-study. This reviewer has not seen the book [1] by the same author to say how much difference is there between this and the present book under review. It is a good addition to the related field of aerospace controls [2,3].
