The novel Citizen Justin searches the struggle of a teenage boy to find his sexual identity in a complex world. Once you can pass through the plentiful grammar mistakes the text becomes an eloquent read. The author uses the struggle of loneliness and friendship to delicate a cultural and political picture. With such great symbolism it would be no surprise if the book received a Pulitzer Prize. A must read for all teens and young adults. -HWM

This author deserves a good publisher & editor!
The book is based on a true story but is told from the POV of a new friend,Marquetta. She is a hoot ! I have a teenage son much like her.A lot of eye rolling and laughter. I also lost a 15 yr old son to suicide for unknown reasons, 11 years ago, so I'm very sensitive to what our teens lives are like these days.This story does not disappoint.There are some serious subjects but also a lot of laughter and friendship . It's todays' reality in school.
I don't know how the author managed to write his story through the eyes of another character ,but it's freakin' brilliant and it works.! I found myself screaming "where are the adults?the teachers?" I wanted to reach into the book and do something ,talk to them. It's a great story ,very engrossing. Marquetta and her brother lost their father at a young age.His belongings,a jacket and a music album, are of great importance.I could totally relate.
Yes,an editor would help in places,but any errors only lend authenticity to the actual story,in my opinion.
Dillon is a great story teller. I too,have requested a sequel .I need to know where Marquetta & Justin go from here.
I contacted the author and was stunned to learn he is very young . If this is just his first book and he continues to write,we have a lot to look foreword to.

I did like it, but....

I really liked the first story, Paris for One. It's more like a novella, I guess - it's a little over 100 pages long (this is on my kindle so I'm guessing it's the same for the hard copy). I loved the story and, as usual, loved Moyes' writing style.

The first story is followed by 8 short stories that were good, but felt like something I would have read over a blog instead of paying money for. I kind of felt gypped after finishing it in less than 3 hours.

So while I enjoyed all the stories, I wouldn't go and recommend it to all my friends like I have every other JoJo Moye's novel I've read.

She writes great stories,

Jojo Moyes is one of my favorite writers. When I realize this was a collection of stories and novellas, initially I was disapointed. But very quickly I was engrossed in all of them. She writes the most intriguing settings and piles on the hardship for the narrator. I loved each of there and would read it again.

While I enjoy Jojo Moyes books this one was not up to her normal standard. It came acrossed as a "rushed" series of short stories instead of a fully developed storyline. I hope her next book is up to her normal stellar style.

About the Author
Thomas Hardy was born in 1840 in Dorchester, Dorset. He enrolled as a student in King s College, London, but never felt at ease there, seeing himself as socially inferior. This preoccupation with society, particularly the declining rural society, featured heavily in Hardy s novels, with many of his stories set in the fictional county of Wessex. Since his death in 1928, Hardy has been recognised as a significant poet, influencing The Movement poets in the 1950s and 1960s.

Great poems, but why not buy an anthology?

Thomas Hardy's second poetry collection, 1901's Poems of the Past and the Present, may be his best original volume and is likely my personal favorite. It definitely showed that the greatness of Wessex Tales, the first book of poetry by a writer who had long been famous and acclaimed for novels, was no fluke. The book may well have Hardy's best individual poems, including "The Darkling Thrush," perhaps his best known work. Other classics include "`I Said to Love,'" "A Broken Appointment," "The Ruined Maid," and "In Tenebris." Also here are some lesser-known works that are among my personal favorites: "To an Unborn Pauper Child," "The Respectable Burgher on `The Higher Criticism'," and "The Church-Builder." General quality aside, this collection is notable for several features distinguishing it from Hardy's other great poetry books. First, it begins with his famous Queen Victoria memorial. Second, it has a War Poems section that includes some of Hardy's most celebrated poems ("Drummer Hodge," etc.) as well as some of his strangest and most speculative: "The Souls of the Slain," "The Sick Battle-God," etc. This predated World War I, for which Hardy would also write some of the best and most well-known poems, and soon seemed eerily prophetic. The fact is particularly interesting in that "The Sick Battle-God," which closes the section, is uncharacteristically optimistic, declaring that mankind's bloodshed lust had ceased. Also setting this collection apart is the "Poems of Pilgrimage" section, a poetic memento of Hardy's Italy visit; some of his most interesting and personal work is here. Finally, a short section has a notable selection of the kind of material to which Hardy rarely turned - translations from various languages and other imitations. He proves surprisingly adept, especially when we remember that he was essentially self-taught, making us wonder what he could have produced if he had done more in this line. The "Miscellaneous" section meanwhile has several dozen excellent poems, including some of his most notable. All told, this is a great collection; its poems are essential to anyone who loves Hardy's verse and a good place for the curious to start.

However, we must remember that Hardy was extremely prolific over a very long period; even more notably, in striking contrast to nearly all artists, his quality never diminished. He was after all into his 60s when this book came out - long past the point even most of the best poets have lost the majority, or even all of, their greatness. Yet he put out great work well into his 80s. This means that, though everyone will inevitably have a favorite, all the poetry collections he released are of essentially equal greatness. An anthology is thus ideal, preferably a complete one. It will give far more enjoyment, especially as good ones can be found that cost little more than this single volume. Anyone wanting Hardy's poetry thus should skip to such an omnibus; only those who for some reason want Poems of the Past and the Present by itself need buy this.
